The point is *not* the quality of NT or how interesting it is for this or that type of user. The point is that seen from Informix's point of view (which is the only interesting one in this contest as it is them we have to convince) the Windows NT and other current ports are interesting and often strategic in and of themselves. A Linux port also have to be interesting in the same way. Whether NT is a good or bad database server isn't a big deal in this situation. Any market on Linux that Informix can earn money on, directly or indirectly, is the interesting point. I think it is there and have put forward some arguments as to why. You are spending too much time on your problems with NT. I will grant you one thing about NT in this connection: If it's too expensive or otherwise not interesting for a significant part of the market it's another argument why Informix should also do a Linux port. Your basic argument seems to be that they could gain new users that wouldn't be covered by an NT port (or any of the other ports they now have). I think you are right on this, but it could have been stated much simpler without making NT look all bad. Remember who you are talking to and their very legitimate interests in earning money for Informix by selling on the platforms where they can do just that. However bad I, you or others might think NT is, it's still very important from a marketing point of view. We should try to show Informix that Linux is as well. It is, and mostly on it's own merits.
