Informix refers to this as fragmentation. You can either specify doing in the CREATE TABLE or use ALTER FRAGMENTATION statements. I don't have a manual handy at the moment & this computer's PDF handler is to old to handle Informix's manuals, so I can't get you the exact syntax. >What else can I do if a DB space gets too small for a certain table or >more many tables altogether? You can add additional chunks to a DB space, or more index's or tables to other DB spaces. In some applications, it is easier to move an index to other DB space instead of fragmenting a table. Which technique is best depends on your application and the number of CPU's. The more CPU's, disk, memory you have the better fragmentation works. A one or two CPU system with a good cache benefits from moving the index. (See CREATE INDEX ... IN dbspace to seperate the index from the table). S.W.
