Any triggers on that table ? How about any constraints ?
Can you see the sql running or is it waiting on something ? ( onstat -u , onstat -g sql, onstat -g ses )

i have following problem on my IDS 7.31 :
Table A (with 20 columns) has 450 000 records; and an index on
column ID.
executing an select ....from A where ID = 1234 is OK (very fast)
BUT
when i execute
delete from A where ID = 1234 it takes 10 to 20 seconds !!!
i did an "update statistics", but i have the same behaviour.
any suggestions ????

yes there is(was) a BAD trigger which we transferred from an old system.
we have forgotten to convert it.
