You'll need more than an ODBC driver for multi-tiered data sources. You'll also need a request broker to run on your host, and the request broker must be matched to your ODBC driver. For the Q+E driver, you'll need I-Net/PC, an Informix product sold separately for engine versions 4 and 5, bundled with 6. Q+E is now a subsidiary of Intersolv. Visionware in the UK provides both the request broker and the ODBC driver for their SQL Retriever product. They have some nice extras like a DDE-to-ODBC converter so your non-ODBC apps can access ODBC data sources through DDE. OpenLink Software, also based in the UK, provides both the request broker and the ODBC driver. Their specialization is in high-performance, highly tunable ODBC. Supposedly, Bull also provides an ODBC driver for Informix, but I personally would not consider it a strong contender. I believe it uses I-Net for its request broker.
