Does the optimizer treat CLUSTER indexes any different from a normal index while decoding the query or is CLUSTER used purely for the side effect of sorting the table data in index order, thereby coincedently getting a few extra fempto-seconds of performance? Does CLUSTER give the index any more weight in the optimizer pool? I wouldn't think so, but I thought I'd just bring the topic up as we all know the devil is in the details.
