However, in my experience, using NLS with data, i.e. using NCHAR, can cause severe performance problems when doing searches on such indexed columns. If I remember right it has something to do with the MATCHES keyword. My local Informix says this will be fixed, but it's still the same in version 7.00. US software always seems to treat NLS subjects carelessly.
