Actually Informix does not care how big or small your drives are. The problem is that your OS cannot handle that large a drive and can only create seven partitions. Get a third party volume manager, like Veritas that can handle partitioning larger drives. We use Veritas on Sun and Clariion on DG creating 20-30 drives stripe sets from 9GB drives essentially producing a 180-240GB virtual drive that needs to be partitioned down to 90-120 2GB logical devices that Informix knows how to deal with.
