It really depends on the manner in which your database server locks
records. But in general, the server would lock the page first anyway
(just at a different level).

The difference is probably miniscule for a single lock, it's when you
process thousands of records that the cumulative difference is
substantial.

Or if you do batch jobs outside of normal working hours, you can
ALTER TABLE x LOCK MODE (PAGE) before you start your batch
runs and change it back again afterwards. :-)
