A unix "pro" that can't install Informix...... That's obviously an overpaid person..... even if he works for free, he's overpaid!! How much simpler does it have to be? On the other hand, maybe it would be interesting to meet him..... incompetent and 'unix person' generally aren't terms that go together..... Let's see..... name 10 things easier than an Informix install.... An Oracle install? Ah ha ha ha ha ha ha..... Obbie slap me! -----Original Message----- From: informix-list-bounces@iiug.org [mailto:informix-list-bounces@iiug.org] On Behalf Of Obnoxio The Clown Sent: Thursday, October 05, 2006 6:07 PM To: Jerry Hamilton Cc: informix-list@iiug.org Subject: Re: So much hate.... You bought a mainframe-caliber database and didn't even read the install guide? Then you bitch because it needs some configuration? You're just used to the way Oracle works, if you weren't you wouldn't be moaning about the effort of an IDS install. I can go from insert the CD to fully up and running with databases created in 15 minutes and, by the way, "dd" doesn't feature anywhere in the process. I hope to God you never go near a customer. Cretin." ...and not get this as a response: Error opening file The file /homepages/26/d162953820/htdocs/cuddletech/blog/pivot/db/standard-00500/ 00544.php could not be opened for writing! "And why is a $50,000 database unable to be shipped with a management GUI in case I want it?" Doesn't that statement eliminate this guy from the Unix pro category? Is that $50,000 based on the new pricing model? I think so. Because Unix pros are so easy to fool. Just print on the box: "Has a spiffy GUI management interface if you want it." They won't, and probably will never notice it isn't there. :)
