Database Development Mgr Needed for Start-up Company
Position Overview: Software Development Manager for On-line Information Service Database Development, located in Phoenix Arizona. Start-up company funded by second-largest communications company in the world. Equity participation is significant. Full relocation provided. The ideal candidate will have delivered multiple complex software products under simultaneous deadlines with limited resources. The individual will be experienced at code reviews, schedule reviews, mid-course corrections, manpower allocation against objectives, and cost containment. He/she will be used to working with small teams, and will have strong previous technical experience to insure that they can thoroughly understand and test the details of product development. This individual has a track record of accurately projecting schedules and holding to deliverables. Ideally, this individual will have worked with UNIX platform/database development (Sybase preferred), integrated applications (dbase, TCP/IP, communications, full text retrieval), Windows and OOP projects. Experience with or knowledge of SGML a major plus. Key requirement is that they understand and thrive in a start-up environment with high stakes. In their background they've successfully pulled products out of the fire and shipped those against deadlines. This person will be a tough minded manager that can drive a development project and make decisions on priorities and the allocation of talent and resources to meet the objectives. Combination of experiences include management of multiple teams in a commercial product development environment, and previous hands-on development/Project Lead expertise on a C based product development team that shipped new product through several releases. At least 10 years of experience, of which 4 most recent years have been in Development Management of a complex software product (system and application level, prefer database) where he/she has managed the aggressive schedules of a start up or new product development effort. The most important requirement is that this individual knows how to get product shipped and can do code reviews. The development work is primarily C, Unix, TCP/IP, Sybase, Sun based. Knowledge of advanced development techniques, process maturity, system and subsystem architectural design, test, QA improvement approaches, and object-oriented dev. and DB are obvious advantages. At the moment, there are 18 people in the engineering/technology group of which 9 are doing hands-on development. The other 9 are performing non-coding development tasks such as human factors, simulation, testing, project management. Compensation: Commensurate with experience (competitive base salary and comprehensive benefits) with the equity participation being the key component to the overall compensation package.
