DEADLOCK

Hi, On occassion (3 times in a year), our Informix 7.31 system running SAP will dump a number of files within the /tmp filesystem. All files have the same naming convention ONSTAT_DEADLOCK and will be anywhere from 370Mb to 578Mb. Does anyone know under what conditions will the database dump these files. The online log shows 8Gb of logical logs were created during the time period, nothing else. Thank you, Antonio ls -lat ONSTAT* -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 48586752 Jan 30 06:29 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9841.7 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57829184 Jan 30 06:29 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9838.2 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57833075 Jan 30 06:29 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9840.2 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57822706 Jan 30 06:29 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9842.2 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57814849 Jan 30 06:29 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9843.1 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57815161 Jan 30 06:28 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9841.6 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57839108 Jan 30 06:23 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9841.5 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57839603 Jan 30 06:23 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9840.1 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57841040 Jan 30 06:23 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9843.0 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57841670 Jan 30 06:22 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9838.1 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57840789 Jan 30 06:22 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9841.4 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57766523 Jan 30 06:16 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9841.3 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57752874 Jan 30 06:10 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9857.1 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57772916 Jan 30 06:10 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9857.0 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57843141 Jan 30 06:01 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9842.1 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57843508 Jan 30 06:01 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9841.2 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57838066 Jan 30 06:01 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9838.0 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57839946 Jan 30 06:00 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9839.2 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57829600 Jan 30 06:00 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9841.1 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57834627 Jan 30 06:00 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9839.1 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57815486 Jan 30 06:00 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9841.0 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57762021 Jan 30 05:53 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9840.0 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57827332 Jan 30 05:53 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9842.0 -rw-r--r-- 1 pr1adm sapsys 57826315 Jan 30 05:53 ONSTAT_DEADLOCK.9839.0
IDS isn't creating them, they have nothing to do with the logical logs that are being referred to in the online log. Probably SAP is. What's in them? The SAP kernel for IDS does generate them, these files are meant to help
identifiying the root cause of a deadlock, however, in practice the
files are probably of little help.
The files mostly contain a number of 'onstat' outputs.
If you are not concerned about finding the root cause of a deadlock in
SAP programs, you may delete them right awway.
