Hi, I would like to install an IDS11.50 with SDK3.50 that should support English, Bulgarian and Greek languages. Unicode cannot be used. Is there a code page that supports the above 3 languages? Thanks, Vasilis
Hi, should this encodings be used in separate databases (e.g. one with greek chars, one with bulgarian etc.) or within one db ? As far as I know, there is no common code page which supports all the characters. We have been using utf8 for bulgarian stuff and that should cover also greek characters. English ist supported in most of the charsets, cause they do not use many special chars ... Hope this helps, Marcus ----- Ursprüngliche Mail ----- Von: "ECONOMIDES VASILIS" <vasilis.economides@ctl.com> An: ids@iiug.org Gesendet: Donnerstag, 6. ISO 8859-5 (Cyrillic) would support Bulgarian. All the ISO 8859-x languages support English since the codes 0x00..0x7F are the same in all of them, and is the same as ASCII, and ASCII supports what English needs for normal purposes (that's a slightly naïve assertion since résumé and some other imported words acquire accents, but its good enough for a first approximation). That strongly suggests there is no single-byte code set that will support both, so you will end up using Unicode or devising your own system (and, of the two, using Unicode is by far the easier). -- Jonathan Leffler <jonathan.leffler@gmail.com> #include <disclaimer.h> Guardian of DBD::Informix - v2011.0612 - http://dbi.perl.org "Blessed are we who can laugh at ourselves, for we shall never cease to be amused." --f46d0408913195700704c90bbd07
