V7.3X Attach/Detach Fragment - Avoiding Index Rebuild

Hi, Informix proclaims that IDS V7.3X is smarter when it comes to Attach/Detach of a fragment using 'Alter Fragment On Table x Attach/Detach...'. They claim Index rebuilds can be avoided when Detaching if the index fragmentation is identical or highly parallel to the table fragmentation. But so far I have not been able to find the case in V7.3X where the index rebuild is avoided. The only time it seems to work (and this also works in V7.23.UC1) is when the index is created implicitly with the same fragmentation strategy as the table. In the example below 'idx1' is implicitly created as a fragmented index with the same fragmentation strategy as the table. In this case the index rebuild is avoided when a fragment is detached in both V7.23.UC1 and V7.30.UC2. create table tab1 ( col1 int, col2 int, col3 int ) fragment by expression col1 <= 1000 and col1 > 1 in d001l82, col1 < 10000 and col1 > 1000 in d002l82, col1 < 20000 and col1 >= 10000 in d003l82; create index idx1 on tab1 ( col1); However, when I explicitly create the index as fragmented (see below), the index is rebuilt when I detach a fragment. create table tab1 ( col1 int, col2 int, col3 int ) fragment by expression col1 <= 1000 and col1 > 1 in d001l82, col1 < 10000 and col1 > 1000 in d002l82, col1 < 20000 and col1 >= 10000 in d003l82; create index idx1 on tab1 ( col1) fragment by expression col1 <= 1000 and col1 > 1 in d001l82, col1 < 10000 and col1 > 1000 in d002l82, col1 < 20000 and col1 >= 10000 in d003l82; Does anyone know what are the specific circumstances which will avoid an index rebuild when Detach-ing and Attach-ing fragments to a table in V7.3X?
