We embed the ace program into a Unix Shell script and use the Process Id of the user i.e #-- TMP - is a unique file name made up of "tmp"+process-id . e.g. tmp15034 tmp="tmp$$" then we use the inline editor to create the Ace program from within the shell script i.e e - $tmp.ace <<-!EOF . Database patient end.... .. Select acode, bcode, patname from $tmp into temp $tmpA .. . w! q !EOF Then a unix command to compile it and run it saceprep $tmp sacego -s $tmp >$tmp.out ## or use $OUTFILE which is defined etc this way each user is always using a unique name for every file or table that is created for that run. if you fix it to a users LOGNAME then the user cannot run more than 1 instance of the report ....we have this situation frequently i.e runningg report for two months seperately .
