They use it over modems after checking that the system can be restored in this way. The tool is not made generally available so as to avoid users without training trying to recover a broken online. This could have the unfortunate consequence that they manage to make it appear recovered when in fact the data is irreparably damaged. Of course Informix would then get the blame for not having provided a bulletproof recovery tool. You can ask but I don't think that you will get a copy. The only people outside Informix who I suspect have it are the beta sites for Online.
