4gl debugger

The debugger available from IBM seems to be rather complicated to use. Looks like you have to recompile everything to use it. Is there a debugger available that doesn't require all this work? Thanks! Kate, I have always debugged compiled C4GL (compiled with -g and -keep) using a standard OS debugger. You are actually debugging the generated ESQL/C source file, not the 4Gl itself, however, the 4GL source lines and generated ESQL/C code are embedded in the generated C language source code that is finally compiled to a .4ge file as comments. It takes only a short time to get used to debugging in this mode, and has the advantage of giving the programmer doing the debugging a very good understanding of what's going on under the hood of his/her 4GL source code which leads to better programs. The only pure IBM Informix 4GL debugger is the I4GL Interactive Debugger which works on the p-code version of the 4GL executable. Unfortunately, the p-code executables often behave slightly differently from the compiled C executables and bugs that show up in one version often do not manifest in the other, so ultimately, unless you will be deploying p-code executables, the Interactive Debugger is often a waste of money and time.
