WITHOUT WAITING doesn't repaint the screen, as well as runs the shell as a background process. There used to be a problem with the process dying if the parent (4GL) program exited before it was finished, so you should test that. Or ... you could call a c program that does an exec() on a passed string. This has proven to be somewhat faster than RUN for shells that require no screen interaction. ================ Dennis J.
