Re index selection

Bob B. asked about Informix's decision to use indexes and another netter has responded regarding the order of index creation as having an impact. It may be superfluous to note these items because both writers may well be aware of them, but others may not. The SET EXPLAIN ON statement in ISQL provides a means to determine how the optimizer is interpreting the sql statement. (see SQL Reference Manual Chapter 2 under indexing strategy.) I received from Informix a paper describing the optimizer's strategy. It,or possibly an update to it,might be available from Informix. It was called TechInfo #590.
