If you can take the courses in Chicago (with one Dan Geoppo), then yes, the courses are more than worth it. Especially the internal architecture course. I personally have not taken it, but I've gone over much of the material offline with Dan, and it gives you a very good understanding of how the engine is working behind the scenes, and what you can do to troubleshoot and/or tune it.
