I must say, though, that if you think porting .5 million lines of 4gl to java shouldn't be that tough that you're probably mistaken. If it turns out that you were not mistaken, that this is not too tough from your point of view, drop me a line and we'll make you an offer! Seriously, the problems involved in translating between the two languages, unless converting programs specifically written /to/ be converted, are extreme. And from a GUI perspective (since you mentioned .pers...) how can you expect a tool to convert from state-driven to event-driven code? We have a legacy app of around 2.5 million lines of 4gl code that we'd love to magic-bullet convert, but I've never seen any tool that could even get us close enough to consider, sorry. -Richard
