RE: !HELP! Arabic characters - PB5.0, OnLine 7.20UC2, dbaccess
Posted in 1997
If I have understood correctly, data that is stored in Online comes back on
to a screen using PB which is fine, but the data retrieved in dbaccess is
junk.
I had used an arabic system using Online and ALIS (not dead sure if this was
the name, but supplied by a Canadian company) Terminals for the users which
used to retrieve and store ascii characters buit using a display facility
built into the terminal that used to convert this ascii to an arabic
character set. When trying next to use SQLWindows on top of this led to a
disaster as the data retrieved was not understandable and Windows based
driver support for that arabic standard was not available at that time. The
basic issu being that when the user interface changes the standard used for
doing that on screen translation should also be available on the one moved
to.
Hope that helps ....

G'day all!
I am rapidly revising my opinion of Informix documentation --
downwards! I've read the 7.2 GLS document from cover to cover and am
still none the wiser.
I am visiting one of my Arabian customers, and they are using (ugh!)
PowerBuilder 5.0 Arabic. They can maintain and query Arabic data fine
via PB forms, but they cannot use Arabic characters in dbaccess or in
PB's query screen.
I've tried various settings for DB_LOCALE and CLIENT_LOCALE and
SERVER_LOCALE, but nothing I could think of actually worked. :-(
The client wants to go live on Saturday (don't ask!), and TFM hasn't
helped me at all. Any comments will be gratefully received.
