CISAM & RDMS Free Hersheys to anyone who can help

Question: Are there any query tools that enable direct querying of Unix CISAM file based databases, in a relational manner that does not require replication of the CISAM files in an RDBMS or too many layers of software inbetween? User: Windows <-> Netware 4.01 <-> Unix :CISAM DB files Failing that, are there any tools which allow direct access to Unix CISAM files from a windows environment, via Netware 4.01, for simpler interfacing. Can ODBC connect to Unix CISAM? Hello netters, My apologies if my question is not strictly related to this group or is an FAQ but there seemed no obvious home for this question. We have two systems, one of which is a HR/Payroll/Rostering system. Both use CISAM files as their databases. In the future these products may be modified to use relational DB's. In the mean time we would like to be able to query these databases using GUI based query tools like Cognos's Impromptu, PowerSoft's PowerViewer, Crystal Reports etc., that can perform operations like those possible with the above mentioned relational tools. We want to avoid replication of data in an RDBMS or any intermediate data conversion/downloading if we can (Not asking for much huh). We are looking for some method that allows interactive querying (Selection only, no updates or deletions etc.) with a minimum of intermediate layers. So far the only options presented to us have involved downloads and conversion into an RDBMS (we want to avoid the duplication, loss of immediacy, and extra DB licenses (argh ..$$$$$$)) or many layers of intermediate software (which all cost extra $$ and present multiplying possible points of failure). Our RDBMS of choice if we had to use one would be Sybase. We already use PowerBuilder. We may be asking for too much but surely with the widespread use of CISAM files someone somewhere must have wanted to do the same thing. We will also have simpler interfacing problems so would be interested to know if there are any Windows to Unix CISAM access tools? Can ODBC connect to Unix CISAM?? Alan Rothwell New Zealand
