You can execute an O.S. command from within an Informix Stored Procedure
by using the SYSTEM statement.
First, create a stored procedure that uses the file name as input:
create procedure compress_file(file_name char(50))
system '/usr/bin/compress '||file_name; end procedure;
Then, execute the S.P. within your SQL script referencing the file
name as follows:
execute procedure compress_file(name_of_file_to_be_compressed);

Subject: Question To All
Hey there,
I unload frequently updated tables twice a day through an SQL script,
i.e. "unload to <file_name> select * from <table_name>". Some files
are more then 100MBs.
Is there any way that though SQL script, right after unloading the
table i can compress the file and then start unloading the next table
and so on....
Thanx in advance for all your help
