ifxclone
Posted in 2012
User attempted to use ifxclone to clone an Informix database from Linux to AIX, but encountered error -83673 ('Unexpected message type') causing physical restore to fail. Multiple experts confirmed that ifxclone cannot be used across different OS/hardware platforms because archive formats are not portable between platforms. Alternative solutions suggested: use export/import or let replication populate an empty target database.

I finally got my grid and CDR setup to work (with a little help from you guys) and then decided I'd try making it easier by using ifxclone...now I can't get that to work :/...I've created the files for the spaces that the source has on the target. Thanks Response: I don't think this is going to work between a Linux machine and an AIX machine. According to http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/idshelp/v117/index.jsp?topic=%2Fcom.ibm .adref.doc%2Fids_adr_1093.htm if you go down to the prerequisites section it mentions the hardware/software requirements are the same as for HDR, and for HDR the machines you are replicating between have to be the same platform. Since ifxclone uses ontape to archive and restore the database, and since
archives are note portable between platforms, you cannot use ifxclone to
clone a server to a different OS or hardware platform. You will either
have to use export and import or something similar, or you will have to
create an empty database on AIX and let ER populate it.

Minor correction. IFXCLONE does not use ontape. It does, however, use=
the
BAR routines within the server. That is why ifxclone is able to take
advantage of parallelism that onbar, (but not ontape) is able to do.

Thanks Madison. However, the point about requiring the target and source
to be the same OS and platform is the important part (except for the single
exception of HPUX/PA-RISC and HPUX/Itanium being interportable). The OP
can't do what he wants to do the way he is attempting to do it.

well now that that's cleared up it's back to the grid for me...horrible attempt at humor...thank you all very much...now to hope I can get this to realize the template like I need it to so I don't have to manually add a couple hundred tables...
