Re: Connecting MS Access to Informix (how?? help, please

You can use Informix Temp tables and multiple queries by using multiple passthrough queries in MsAccess. It is best to limit each query to a singleton sql statement as the ODBC layer will complain otherwise about temp tables not existing. These can then be run sequentially using a macro. This works extremely well in MSAccess which IMO is a candidate for best report writer anywhere with this functionality. BTW, if you haven't trialled Openlink, then you might like to. I see no speed issues when using it and they claim to be as fast as a native driver. Intersolve, in my experience, was a pain to use with MSAccess, did not allow multiple connections and the Access connection was flakey. All these problems disappeared when Intersolve did. rgds Peter Tashkoff <tashkop@zespri.co.nz> Zespri International Limited This posting may not be used by any party to vilify another. We are using it successfully with On-Line Version 5 and MS Access 2.0 under Win 3.1. I have no idea how it will work with Win95. We are testing the WinNT version now. Unfortunately, it is not as fast as running queries on the UNIX box, but you have the benefit of using MS Access or VB applications as a windows front-end. The speed is not unreasonable especially if you use the "pass through" query option and try to optimize your datasets and queries. One drawback is that you can't use Informix Temp tables to speed data access (or at least we haven't figured a way) or multiple SQL statements as you can in DBACCESS.
