INFORMIX'S EDUCATION SERVICES AND NORTH AMERICAN CUSTOMER SERVICE CENTER ACHIEVE ISO 9000 CERTIFICATIONS Latest Certifications Demonstrate Worldwide Commitment to Service MENLO PARK, Calif. (Dec. 12, 1994) -- Informix Software, Inc., (NASDAQ: IFMX) the leading provider of parallel processing database technology, today announced that its Education Services center has achieved the international ISO (International Standards Organization) 9001 certification, the highest level attainable, for the design and development of high quality programs. Informix also announced that its North American Customer Services center achieved ISO 9002 certification, following certification of five other Informix support centers worldwide. The certifications were awarded by Lloyds Register Quality Assurance (LRQA). ISO 9000 is an officially recognized, external standard for quality management that recognizes companies for implementing effective quality systems in their organizations. ISO 9000 standards also provide requirements against which customers can evaluate a vendor's quality system. To achieve ISO 9000 certification, a company must successfully complete a rigorous evaluation process by the LRQA. The evaluation process includes an examination of the company's quality policy, quality system documentation and quality records. A key part of the evaluation is a thorough on-site audit to determine whether each required quality system element is defined, documented, deployed and consistently implemented. "ISO 9000 certification confirms Informix's commitment to a high level of customer service and support that is consistent worldwide," said Jim Hendrickson, vice president, customer services at Informix. "It also sends a clear message to our customers, present and future, that we are prepared to meet and exceed their service and support expectations." Informix's Worldwide Quality Program Informix is committed to high quality service and support worldwide. Since making ISO 9000 certification a worldwide objective, five other Informix support centers have been certified. Informix's support centers in the United Kingdom and Germany achieved ISO 9002 certification in December 1992, followed by Informix's support center in its Asia/Pacific headquarters in Singapore in June 1994 and Informix's support center in France in November 1994. In addition, Informix's European Operations Center in Dublin achieved ISO 9002 certification for manufacturing in March 1994. ISO 9000 certification is valid for three years and surveillance visits are conducted every six months. About ISO 9000 ISO 9000 is an officially recognized, external standard for quality management that is governed by the National Accreditation Council for Certification Bodies (NACCB). ISO 9000 places strict requirements on the company's quality system and suppliers must also meet these standards. ISO 9000 is externally assessed by officially recognized bodies such as LRQA. ISO 9002 concentrates on defining a model for quality assurance in production and installation only. ISO 9001 additionally defines a model for quality assurance in design/development.
