If that is true, then how does rollback > work? No. Your lock will remain in effect until you either 'COMMIT WORK' or 'ROLLBACK WORK'. What it means is that your lock will only lock the single row you are updating, rather than the entire page on which the row resides. That way, if other users need to update other rows on the same page, your lock will not interfere with them.
