Slow ODBC Connection to IDS 9.30 on SUN 5.8 from Windows 2000

Hi all, I recently switched from Win NT4.0 to Win 2000, and the connection time to a IDS 9.30 on a SOLARIS platform changed from instantaneous to 20 seconds or more. I tried the old Intersolv 3.11 driver and the new DataDirect Connect for ODBC 4.2 driver, with the same result. After quite a lot of trying and then browsing, I couldn't find any solution to this issue. So the question is : How do I configure either the PC or the IDS on the SUN to prevent those loooooooooooong connection times. Thanks, --Jacques-- PS : only the connection is slow, after that, all is well.

Add your Sun system to hosts and try again. Also search google for Informix and DNS - you might find a more detailed info. HTH Michael
This is normally a DNS issue, flush your DNS cache on the PC ping IP then ping name If you've got decent DNS then they should be virtually the same, if they're not then add the ip/host to the local hosts file. We resync our PC hosts file as part of the standard login scripts Jacques SANSON wrote: > > Hi all, > > I recently switched from Win NT4.0 to Win 2000, > and the connection time to a IDS 9.30 on a SOLARIS platform changed > from instantaneous to 20 seconds or more. > > I tried the old Intersolv 3.11 driver and the new > DataDirect Connect for ODBC 4.2 driver, with the same result. > > After quite a lot of trying and then browsing, I couldn't find any > solution to this issue. > > So the question is : > How do I configure either the PC or the IDS on the SUN > to prevent those loooooooooooong connection times. > > Thanks, > --Jacques-- > > PS : only the connection is slow, after that, all is well. -- Paul Watson # Oninit Ltd # Growing old is mandatory Tel: +44 1436 672201 # Growing up is optional Fax: +44 1436 678693 # Mob: +44 7818 003457 # www.oninit.com #
First of all, thanks for your answers. After a bit of playing around with the DNS, i had given up since nothing worked any better. I was browsing through the registry for Informix keys, and I remembered a message I read on the databases.informix forum about HKEY_USERS issues on Windows 2000. That did the trick. I just removed the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\Software\\Informix\\SQLHOSTS key, as advised in the "Help Setnet32 Configuration (Informix Client SDK)" message found on this forum (1999/07/27 !!!) and now everything is back to normal (NT4) : - Setnet32 is working again (no more "Couldn't open the registry"). - After a proper configuration with setnet32, it is now WORKING !!!!! The slowness came from the registry access timer, which must be somewhere around 25/30 seconds I guess ..... Thanks again. --Jacques-- jacques.sanson@ferma.fr (Jacques SANSON) wrote in message news:<a687d671.0306050812.45ce9114@posting.google.com>... > Hi all, > > I recently switched from Win NT4.0 to Win 2000, > and the connection time to a IDS 9.30 on a SOLARIS platform changed > from instantaneous to 20 seconds or more.
