I Agree, but as long as the optimizer give a plan wich has some _sense_ , which is certain almost all the the time... But in the cases when the optimizer plan is _nonsense_ (statistics et all stuff done) you just have to split a long query to see what the problem is... When you discover what it is... you have options to fix the querys like use directives to optimizer (which weren't necesary if a good plan was taken in the first place). So, some times, to me, it is useful to split querys... in fact most of the times I've done it I got performance improvements, although maybe I'am missing something. Chucho.
