I said I didn't go, and I wasn't sure what they had planned. There was talk in '97 so I wanted to know more. Since it isn't released yet, it appears to have taken a back burner to other things. I wasn't aware that Informix intended to merge the code in to the 9.x stream. I thought they were going to merge the 9 code in to the 7 stream. That's interesting. > I don't remember exactly when they would have the first version > available, but sometimes this autumn/winter. Hmmm. Well, first there is only one spec for a JVM so that's a moot point. All JVMs must meet Suns specs. Just ask Microsoft. ;-) > >Informix was doing some Java stuff early on, however, nothing was > >formally stated until the > >Java One conference. > They did talk about the same thing on last years user conference, and > they have worked with it in the meantime. If you read my entire paragraph, the point I was trying to make that Informix jumped on the java bandwagon early. Heck there's even an Informix Press book on JDBC. Yes, I did see the DataDirector for Java. But I wasn't refering to that when I said that certain key projects were cut. Hint: There are some things that are not meant for open discussion. I don't know that these projects were ever openly discussed other than some minor PR blurb at their kick-off. > To me this is a conserted and long term planned effort within the Java > arena on exactly the right types and forms of products that Informix > need to come out with. Good work with other words. Sigh. I wish you would read my posts twice before commenting. My point was that Informix was involved with Java and smart card technology (which is heavily tied to Java) long before Oracle made its alliance with that software shop to convert 4GL to Java in an attempt to sway people from Oracle. I also stated that Informix did cut some Java related projects when Bob cut the budget. I don't believe that Informix has published their license revenue by product type. That would be interesting to see what products are having an impact on Informix's bottom line. Also, I haven't heard too much on the symantec/informix partnership. That too is interesting. Please note that I am not making a comment negative or positive on Informix. Just asking questions some of which will never be answered in a public forum. -Mikey -- #include <std_disclaimer.h> /* Mike Segel (MS385) */ #include <No_Spam.h> #ifdef OFFENDED_BY_CONTENT The author takes no responsibility for this post.
