Missing error message in 11.70.UC5

Has anyone noticed that there are some error and log messages missing from
11.70.UC5 (possibly other 11.70 versions)???
I had a weak moment myself and failed to configure sqlhosts file correctly
when trying to init a new 11.70 instance. On 11.50 I would get a nice error
message in log files pointing me to configure sqlhosts so it would include at
lest one of DBSERVERNAME/DBSERVERALIASES.
IBM oversight, pressure with new features, developer error???
With 11.70.UC5 I just got line "IBM Informix Dynamic Server Started." in
meessage log and generic failure message from oninit -iv...
It is just a minor problem, but being forgetful as I am I've spent quite some
time figuring out what went wrong. I realized missing message while falling
back to 11.50 and retracing every config step I took... Then 11.50 warned me
that sqlhosts are miss configured and that got me going in right direction on
11.70...
I have to admit, it was some time since the last time I did a full init of IDS
instance on blank machine :(
I can think of an explanation for that, but it really depends on the 11.50
fixpack you're using...
Somewhere along 11.50 (xC3 or xC4?.... I would have to check) IBM
introduced the ability to start/stop the listeners. One side effect of this
(debatable I agree) is that the engine may come up without any listener.
I'd say you'll get an error in online.log, but I may be wrong...
There is a possible, although not easy to reproduce, dangerous aspect of
doing this... In older versions, if you tried to get a second instance
running over the same configuration it would not work due to two aspects:
1- Shared memory segments collision
2- TCP port collision
Number 2) is gone... And I've seen a situation (Linux and AIX I believe)
where if you try to remove the memory segments (by hand) and you still have
oninits running, it complains, but after that the "address" shown in ipcs
-a "changes" (don't recall if it was to 0x0000000 or 0xDDDDD...). Meaning
you could effectively get over 1) above... You'd have to insist on a
mistake, but I've seen a costumer doing it...
But I'm diverting from the main topic... Which 11.50 were you on? Does
onmode -- on that version show the -P (capital "p") option to start/stop
the listeners?
If it doesn't I'd say that can explain the behavior you've seen (not a
problem in 11.7 but a feature in 11.50). Nevertheless, can you re-check the
online.log and see if there isn't an error message there complaining that
it could not start the listener?
