Visual C++ 5 compilation

Can anyone help me. I have to compile informix esql/7 libraries into a visual c++ (not visual tho) programme. This was working fine from version 1.5 where I was compiling .ec file to produce the c files and then c files in the visual environment. (These were then ported to UNIX where they were recompiled for running on the server). Now we have got the new libraries and the visual c++ ver 5. and I can't get it to work. Makefiles no longer compatible and not sure about the Win32 application option. If you have any pointers for me they would be much appreciated.
