Hi
Our new linux server has two tape drives. One is used for OS backup
using amanda and the other one is to used for informix backup.
We have IDS 9.4 installed and onbar configured to backup logs to disk
and level 0 to tape.
We are having issues with the available disk space to use for logs so
I want to move the logs backup to tape.
So.. can I backup logs to the tape during the day and then at night
do a level 0 to the same tape ?
thanks
Informix novice,
This is really a limitation of the storage manager, and not onbar. You
didn't mention what storage manager you used, but any storage manager
worth its salt can backup multiple jobs at the same time to the same
tape.
During a full instance backup ("onbar -b -L 0") onbar will spawn
several jobs depending on:
1. What BAR_MAX_BACKUP is set to. BAR_MAX_BACKUP is an onconfig
parameter that limits the number of simultaneous onbar jobs that are
started (0 = unlimited)
2. How many dbspaces you have
3. Whether you are running a whole backup or not (using the "-w" flag
in the onbar command)
4. If the ALARMPROGRAM starts a logical log backup
So potentially (though unlikely) you could have one backup job per
dbspace and logical log running simultaneously.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
