RE: HDR problem with Windows

Ben,
Don't you see something strange on one of machines,
like an abrupt increase of CPU usage?
Are there some strange messages in Windows system
and application logs (in 'Event viewer')?
Is Firewall started on Windows?
Is IPV6 started?
For safety, try to configure al least two CPU VP's on each
machine and move NETTYPE to NET VP

I can't say I have noticed anything like this.

No, just what's in the online log in application. System shows nothing.

Just checked: no it's not.

No.
We have solved it anyway I am pleased to say. The cause of the problem
only became apparent when I restored a tape to the secondary using
"ontape -r": we could only connect to it from the machine itself. We had
seen these symptoms on UNIX machines before when Informix binds to the
local loopback device. The system has two network cards. On a UNIX
system Informix binds to the card by looking up the server name in
onconfig, using sqlhosts to map this to a name or IP, if a name it is
looked up in hosts or DNS and that interface is used. I had assumed
Informix for Windows works the same but it doesn't. It seems to use the
system binding order and this was the wrong way around on the secondary.
I changed this and everything worked. The error message that was being
reported on the primary was sending us in completely the wrong direction!
Many thanks to Alexey and Guy for helping me out.
Ben.
