Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.

Thanks for ther suggestion bozon. I tried using the dot, but still got
an error (albeit a different one from before) it looks like this is
being interepreted as 'owner.tablename' rather than
'database.tablename';
H:\\Perl Scripts>ifxtest_remotedb.pl
DBD::ODBC::db prepare failed: [Informix][Informix ODBC
Driver][Informix]The spec
ified table (sysmaster.syschunks) is not in the database.
(SQL-07009)(DBD: st_pr
epare/SQLPrepare err=-1) at H:\\Perl Scripts\\ifxtest_synonym.pl line 10.
When you would absolutely use DBD::ODBC:
Use a second connection (for sysmaster).
When you would use perl and would have only one connection:
Use WIN32::ODBC or DBD::Informix, both have no problems with the syntax
'database:table'.
Or use the suggested synonym/dbaccess way.
