Management change for informix-list
Posted in 1997
Some months ago I announced that informix-list will be moving to the IIUG home system, iiug.org. The move didn't happen as soon as I had anticipated, but work has progressed well and things are about ready for the actual move. One of the reasons that we have not gone ahead with the move is that I have decided that it is time for me to step down as manager of the list. I could wax eloquent on the various pros and cons of that decision, but let me just summarize by saying that I have been managing the list continuously since founding it in February of 1991. Whew! Anyway, it makes more sense for me to hand the list over to new management at the same time that it moves to iiug.org rather than for me to get things organized to my liking then try to bring in somebody new. So, that's what we're doing. The "we" in these sentences is myself and the IIUG Board, BTW. This announcement has two purposes: to keep everyone abreast of news related to the list, and to give anyone who thinks they might want to manage the list a chance to step forward. Cathy Kipp <ckipp@verinet.com>, IIUG President, has been coordinating the search for a new manager, and I of course have been helping. Several people have expressed some interest, but nothing definite has been set. It is certainly possible that several people could share manager duties. If you have some interest in possibly [co-]managing the list, please contact Cathy or me <walt@rmy.emory.edu> as soon as possible. We are attempting to schedule a worldwide conference call some time late next week among interested parties. If you would like more details on what would be involved, I can send them to you. This may sound like some kind of farewell, but it isn't -- at least so far as I know. :-) I'll still be around and may be actually posting to the list/c.d.i more. I have to say that running the list and its gateway with c.d.i has been one of the most rewarding things I've ever done with respect to information technology. I could wax eloquent on that topic too, but I won't. Suffice it to say that it has been a blast! I guess that's it for now. If anyone has any questions or comments, let me know. Thanks to all. I mean it.
