Hi everyone, I have to iinstall a lot of Informix products in a AIX 6.1 IBM machine. In this case, all those products below IBM Informix Dynamic Server Ver. 11.5 FC5XG IBM¡¡Informix 4GL Develop Ver 7.50 FC4 IBM¡¡Informix SQL Develop Ver 7.50FC4 IBM¡¡Informix 4GL Runtime Ver 7.50 FC4 IBM/Informix-Client SDK¡¡ Ver3.50.FC8 IBM/Informix EMBEDDED SQL for COBOL Version 7.25.UD4 IBM¡¡C for AIX (In case of using IBM Server ) I know that I don't have to worry about that products installation order (at least, I knew, please, correct me anybody if I'm wrong). Is anything else, more than the default procced (version about OS and products, compatibility, etc) that I have to pay attention? Thanks a lot, Andr¨¦ Luiz Rufino
I have always installed the oldest to the new product. I also never install the engine in the same directory as the 4gl and ISQL, but that is a matter of preference. When you install them all together it is messy to upgrade only one part. So if everything is 11.5 FC4 the order is not important. The CSDK will be installed automatically with the engine if you select that option, and it is better to match the fixpak of the CSDK with the engine, so you should use CDSK 3.50.FC4, not FC8 - or actually you should be installing FC8 for the database engine. So like this: /opt/informix > IBM Informix Dynamic Server Ver. 11.5 FC5XG (but I recommend FC8) /opt/informix4gl > IBM/Informix EMBEDDED SQL for COBOL Version 7.25.UD4 > IBM¡¡Informix 4GL Develop Ver 7.50 FC4 > IBM¡¡Informix SQL Develop Ver 7.50FC4 > IBM¡¡C for AIX (In case of using IBM Server ) - no idea what this is or the version Don't Need: > IBM¡¡Informix 4GL Runtime Ver 7.50 FC4 - don't need, built into the database install > IBM/Informix-Client SDK¡¡ Ver3.50.FC8 - don't need, built into the database install. You may want to download for Windows or linux if you will use that to connect to the database from personal computers Thanks! As usual I would suggest separate tools and engine installations. Also be careful with 7.50.FC4 and ClientSDK FC8. If you install both on same directory you'll his an issue where for example in ISQL or 4GL RDS you won't see the files (sql, forms etc.) you created in the current dir. This, if I remeber correctly was introduced in 3.50.FC5... Later versions may be ok, but I have a mental note that with FC6/7 you'll hit another issue... 3.50.FC4 will work ok with tools 7.50.FC4 Not sure if this is fixed in 7.50.FC5 but probably yes. Test carefully Regards. On Tue, Feb 15, 2011 at 3:04 PM, Andr¨¦ Luiz Rufino <andre_rufino@msn.com>wrote: > Hi everyone, > > I have to iinstall a lot of Informix products in a AIX 6.1 IBM machine. OK, you have two problems. One is that your ESQL/COBOL is a 32bit product and your engine and other products are 64bit products. As far as install order, for products at the same release version level, the order does not matter. However, for products at different release levels, and ESPECIALLY for any products released before IDS 7.31 when the whole install order mess was finally straightened out, you do have to install older product BEFORE newer product. So your install order should be: 1. IBM C for AIX (In case of using IBM Server ) 2. IBM/Informix EMBEDDED SQL for COBOL Version 7.25.UD4 Now, the COBOL is a 32bit version and the remaining products are 64bit versions. You cannot install them in the same INFORMIXDIR. You will have to install the COBOL in a separate directory and set INFORMIXDIR and the library paths to point to that directory for running the 32bit ESQL/COBOL applications. You can use the INFORMIXSQLHOSTS environment variable to point to the sqlhosts file stored in the INFORMIXDIR used to install the remaining 64bit products below. 1. IBM Informix 4GL Develop Ver 7.50 FC4 2. IBM Informix SQL Develop Ver 7.50 FC4 3. IBM Informix 4GL Runtime Ver 7.50 FC4 4. IBM Informix Dynamic Server Ver. 11.50 FC5XG 5. IBM/Informix-Client SDK Ver3.50.FC8 Art Art S.
