Re: Does Informix Provide Poor Product support ???

In the UK, Informix provide their products via a single distributor. There used to be 3 distributors and we bought our products from the smallest one as they provided the best before, during and after sales service and we had an opportunity to get to know the person at the end of the phone. Unfortunately there has already been a noticeable reduction in our service and our reseller discount has gone down - as one might expect. I won't use any names, but anyone at Informix should note that these kinds of actions force developers to speed up plans to use PowerBuilder and other products (JAM6?). Our biggest use is of the Oracle database and although I am an Informix specialist (in the Bulk Shipping industry), I am also the special projects manager - eg:given the job of finding out how to port a C/JAM/ORACLE application from DOS to OS/2. And although Oracle is more expensive and more difficult to support and potentially slower than Informix, it has a much richer SQL command set. I can write single SQL statements in Oracle that require hundreds of lines of I-4GL code. So if product support includes indirect product support, then I would say that Informix should look at their UK agency agreement carefully and ensure that their clients are still receiving the required service. -- David H Lipschitz email: david@lipdav.demon.co.uk If you don't try, you won't know
