Can you provide any more information on 4518 errors when making rather heavy use of sub-strings. Is the problem specifically with let text[1,8] = sentence[10,18] or is it also a problem with assignments such as let str1 = sentence[10,18] or let text[1,8] = str1? Also, am I apt to get 4518 errors with code like let loop_max = length(long_string) -- max length of long_string is 6000 let a = 1 let b = 2 while b < loop_max case when long_string[a] matches "abc*" do one thing when long_string[a] matches "xyz*" do another thing end case let a = a + 1 let b = b + 1 end while Do one thing and do another thing may involve further parsing of long_string and assignment of sub-strings to variables. Sorry if this question is more than a bit confused, I'm a newbie who is very confused by informix and some of its quirks.
