Re: inetd keepalive problem

Graham : Good News : I've had this one and sorted it out. Bad News : I'm running Solaris not HP-UX. For what it's worth the command on Solaris is 'ndd', it can be used on the fly on a running system but parms will revert back to default values unless you invoke it at boot from '/etc/init.d/inetinit' - the second phase of tcp/ip configuration (in the 'tuneable parameters' section). Example : ndd -set /dev/tcp tcp_keepalive_interval 120000 where the value is expressed in milliseconds. I don't know whether HP has the same/similar utility, if not, try migrating to Solaris... > > Graham Mitchell wrote: > >Hi, > > > >( HP9000 K-Series hp-ux 10.20 IDS 7.23UD3 ) > > > >I am unable to resolve this pain in the neck problem. > >has anyone solved this before ? > > > >We have client PCs logging into the database server > >using a client/server application. > >Sometimes, the users switch the PC off and go home and not > >close the application correctly > >This leaves an active thread on the engine with no TTY port > >which will not die ! > > > >I know this has something to do with a 'keepalive' > >parameter on the inetd daemon.
