Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
Not a technical support thread but a branding gripe: the poster objected to an IBM press release calling the database-agnostic Java dashboard framework "DB2 AlphaBlox" rather than giving it a neutral Information Management name, arguing the DB2 label hurts the product and shows poor internal marketing. Others replied that "DB2 Alphablox" is simply the product's official name, that IBM does sell it against non-DB2 databases, and that the naming reflects IBM's past positioning of DB2 for BI and IDS for OLTP. No resolution; the thread ends in banter.
Auto-generated by DrWatson from the posts below — may be imperfect; read the full thread.
"All of the data from the RFID tags Ringnes is using is captured and
stored using IBM's WebSphere Premises Server software. It is then made
available for viewing and analysis via a Web-based dashboard based on
IBM's DB2 AlphaBlox application. "
Hmmm. Alphablox is a java framework to create pretty dashboards. Its
database agnostic. So why is it branded as IBM's DB2 AlphaBlox and not
IBM's Information Management Alphablox?
Kind of makes you wonder just how well IBM's information management's
internal education of branding is doing.
I mean how successful can it be if you can't educate the person who's
writing the PR and then the person who is approving the PR.
Note to AMBUSH! SEE EVEN A LACK OF INTERNAL MARKETING SHOWS JUST HOW
BAD YOU'RE DOING ON THIS FRONT!
Oh and here's a link to the PR...

The product name is now "DB2 Alphablox" While we can argue over the
suitability of the product name, the product name is correct in the
article.

Yeah,
I spoke to someone inside IBM... Seems that they only sell it with DB2. I guess no one running IDS needs a dashboard based on Java widgets. Go figure.

Yes and that's exactly the point.
DB2 as the brand is actually a drag on the product.
I forget which product was actually rebranded as a Websphere product yet delivered out of the DB2 pillar.
Could it be Alphablox? ;-)

I am sure that if you look hard enough, you'll find a sufficient mess of
branding to keep you bitching for the rest of eternity. However, since
AlphaBollocks is a BI product the branding is probably a consequence of
the fact that until recently, IBM was promoting DB2 for BI and IDS for
OLTP. I'm sure it will change if there is a market for AlphaBollocks on IDS.

Nope. aside let's not confuse technology with product brands.

Alphabollox technology?
Serge, don't tell me you grok Java!
You may have some redeeming qualities yet!
