ontape backups to disk under 9.4?

Hi everyone. I have an IDS 9.4 server on aix 5.2 that handles it's backups
with ontape writing to disk. The size of the archive tends to be around 12 GIG
in total (for a level 0). I have restored this database a few times so all
seems ok with the backup/restore plan here.....but...I have heard warnings
about creating ontape backups (to disk) that are greater than 2GB which
somehow relates to the IDS file limit size.....does anyone know anything about
that? Is there any real concerns about this that anyone is aware of?

The 2Gb limit was a problem with IDS7 and early version of IDS9, as wa
the 2Gb chunk limit. However, recoding at 9.4 removed this limitation
and so you are now only constrained by your unix ulimit setting and
physical disk space in the file system. You have done the important
thing in archiving a restoring, the only additional suggestion is to
roll forward some logs (if this is important to you).

Hi,
there was a problem with older versions of IDS not using
the right system calls for files >2GB (i.e. the file offset
was restricted in size). It will work OK in your version.
(Anyway you would have stumbled upon this with your
tests if you would still have this problem in your version
of IDS.)

Hi Will,
I share you that I have version 9.40FC9 running.
At this time I use ontape and I get a 40Gb Backup without problems.
I recomend you that you always check your ontape backup with archecker. It has
been my warranty.
Regards
PAULO. Thanks. Good idea about checking with archchecker....
