It depends how you measure market share. If you mean number of licences shipped then the answer is yes. However if you measure it by revenues, the answer is no. This was true at least in 1991 according to the following data attributed to IDC: Worldwide UNIX RDBMS software licence shipments, 1991 ----------------------------------------------------- Informix 37% Oracle 17.5% Unify 14.7% Progress 7% Ingres 5% Sybase 4% Interbase 2% Empress 1% Others 11.8% (From Informix advertisement in Database Programming & Design) Worldwide UNIX RDBMS software licencing revenues, 1991 ------------------------------------------------------ Oracle 47.6% Informix 15.7% Sybase 10.7% Ingres 10.1% Progress 3.7% Unify 3.2% Interbase 1.3% Empress 1.2% Others 6.4% (From Computerworld Australia) Sorry, I haven't a breakdown by hardware platform. > >It seems like Informix has taken an approach where they are willing to work with >other vendors on integrating their products together. They publish a catalog of independent vendor software. >Thanks. > >-- >Alan Beal >IBM Federal Systems Company >Owego, NY >(607) 751-2026 alanb@vnet.ibm.com That's ok.
