Online console, logfile, tbtape -c output

Has anyone done anything creative with grabbing the output of the Online engine? Like using named pipes or fifo's for the logfile or output from continuous log backup. I'd like to be able to have all that output and more get parsed for things like nasty errors or requests for new media. This way the person responsible for changing tapes and watching for problems can be someplace other than the console (like home once in a while :-). Ideally, the parser would be able to notify the admin even if it had to dial a pager to do it. Of course, once a mechanism exists to look at the output from the various Informix processes, tracking the admin would be fairly trivial. BTW, is anyone else experiencing peculiar behavior from "tbstat -l"? Ours (seemingly) randomly displays backed up and free logs as 100% full and backed up. When the engine cycles back around to a falsely displayed log it uses it without problem, but it can be confusing. For instance: RSAM Version 4.00.UE1 -- On-Line -- Up 4 days 06:31:20 -- 2016 Kbytes Physical Logging Buffer bufused bufsize numpages numwrits pages/io P-1 2 16 103377 7420 13.93 phybegin physize phypos phyused %used 100206 3000 276 790 26.33 Logical Logging Buffer bufused bufsize numrecs numpages numwrits recs/pages pages/io L-1 13 16 1478097 99591 50376 14.8 2.0 address number flags uniqid begin size used %used 76407c 4 F------ 0 200215 1250 0 0.00 764098 5 F------ 0 2006f7 1250 0 0.00 7640b4 6 U-B---- 6529 200bd9 1250 1250 100.00 7640d0 7 F------ 0 2010bb 1250 0 0.00 7640ec 8 U-B---- 6531 20159d 1250 1250 100.00 764108 9 F------ 0 201a7f 1250 0 0.00 764124 10 U------ 6533 201f61 1250 1250 100.00 764140 11 U---C-L 6534 202443 1250 979 78.32 76415c 12 F------ 0 202925 1250 0 0.00 764178 13 U-B---- 6521 202e07 1250 1250 100.00 764194 14 U-B---- 6522 2032e9 1250 1250 100.00 7641b0 15 U-B---- 6523 2037cb 1250 1250 100.00 7641cc 16 U-B---- 6524 203cad 1250 1250 100.00 7641e8 17 U-B---- 6525 20418f 1250 1250 100.00 764204 18 U-B---- 6526 204671 1250 1250 100.00 ..Now when it gets to log #13, it will use it without fuss. (I was VERY concerned about it initially, but so far, it's only an inconvenience). Thoughts on any of this are appreciated. Regards, John Ackley <john@equi.com>
