Hello We're receiving the dreaded -408 error message -- "Invalid message type received from the sqlexec process." The client we are having the problem with, is a Sun/Solaris 2.5 workstation with sqlexec version 5.06.UC1 and our server is Sun/Solaris 2.5 with sqlexecd version 7.12.UC1. Both client and server are Informix-SE. The strange thing is we have a SunOS 4.1.3 client with sqlexecd version 5.02.UC1 that can connect to the above Solaris server with no problems. We have traced the sqlexecd server process and have observed successful connections from SunOS4 clients, but it appears that Solaris 2.X clients never communicate in any way with server (although, I have not run snoop to verify this yet). This means an sqlexec process never gets started on the server for Solaris clients. It also appears that the local sqlexec process on the Solaris client runs momentarily and immediately terminates. I believe we have followed all the instructions in the I-SE 7.1 Administrator's guide regarding sqlhosts and services files. Any ideas as to why the Solaris machine has problems and the SunOS doesn't? It is documented that Informix 5 clients can access an Informix 7 server; however, this does not appear to be the case. I have looked in the iiug archives and have seen that the 408 message is very hard to track down. I also queried the informix site's product defect list and didn't find any answers. Are we going to have to upgrade the clients to version 7 also? Any suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated.
