Actually, there is a problem I had not noticed, which is that you are selecting a null. IDS is a little bit sensitive about such things. In IDS version 9 and above, you can cast the null to the same data type as Field1 SELECT Field1 as ValueField ,Field2 as DescField FROM TableA UNION SELECT Null::INTEGER as ValueField ,'All' as DescField FROM systables WHERE tabid = 1 Assuming Field1 is an integer. Alternately, create a temp table or scratch table with one row and a null value to select.
