I-NET over *slow* WAN
Posted in 1994
We're looking at mirroring our corporate database in several different places (initially the UK and the USA). Unfortunately the only data link we currently have between these offices is the Internet (effectively a slow and unreliable WAN). Has anyone else got any experience of this? Is it possible and/or recommended? In particular how does I-NET handle communication failures and slow updates with respect to the speed of response that a user sees. My preferred solution is to arrange for application-level mirroring (i.e. we do something like adding a flag in each database to indicate a record's source, and whether its copies are out of date yet). However, we're currently only at the investigation stage, so other suggestions will be welcomed. Ta, Chris -- VISIONWARE LTD, 57 Cardigan Lane, LEEDS LS4 2LE, England Tel +44 532 788858.
