I've not seen that problem - it sounds as if there's a problem somewhere, for sure. If the file is 64MB and only uses 1068 bytes for the only file - even allowing an overly generous 1 KB for file header - there's a lot of space wasted. I wonder if there's any chance that the tar format varies. But you don't mention any errors, and I'd expect something if the format was wrong in some way. You may need to do a binary dump of the first 4 KB of the file dd if=C582ZNA.TAR bs=1k count=4 | od [Actually, I'd prefer to look at almost any other binary data dumper than od, but their names vary across systems. Sometimes there's an hd (for hex dump). I normally use my own 'odx', mnemonic for 'Octal Dump in heX', for reasons I don't now remember.] Basically, we would be looking for the information about the start of the second file, based on the information you see when looking for the start of the first file. Tar writes in complete 512 byte blocks, which is helpful. And it uses no magic number - at least, not in the bytes at offset zero (which is NOT helpful). -- Jonathan Leffler #include <disclaimer.h> Email: jleffler@earthlink.net, jleffler@us.ibm.com Guardian of DBD::Informix v2005.01 -- http://dbi.perl.org/
I have had problems with both 4GL 7.32.FC3 RDS Development HP-UX 11 and Informix 4GL Runtime 7.32.FC3 HP-UX 11 in the Passport system. The tar file that is supposed to contain an HP-UX version for RDS contains a Compaq Tru64 version, I have used the file C852MNA.tar instead. It is labeled as a 32 bit version, but if you look inside the Machinenote.732 says that is the 64 bit FC3 version. The 4GL Runtime is in the C852FNA.tar, there is no Machinenote.732 in this. I have installed it and it works and the I4GLRT-cr says that it is the FC3 version. This is also labeled as a 32 bit version in Passport. Please note that there is two UC3 32 bit versions for HP-UX 11 in Passport , I suppose that one is UC3 and the other is FC3. Ulf
