Re: Informix business grew by double digits in 2006 (Q1+Q2)

Daniel - You hit it on the head, its called skill security not job security. When the market changes, you must change with it. I am currently supporting Informix and Oracle. Soon, SQLserver will be added to my list. I prefer my databases on a Unix platform and I am slowly losing that battle with SQLserver gaining more market share than any other vendor. I just go with the flow, it makes sense and me more marketable :). And that's why IDS has no press! I think you are being a bit harsh on Christine. I doubt IBM hired someone incapable of doing what they asked. And therein lies the issue. No doubt she is doing precisely what she is instructed. If one looks at actions rather than words the picture is consistent. There is no interest in spending money to promote Informix. Precisely what Oracle did with RDB and what Microsoft did with Fox. All the yelling and screaming isn't going to change a decision made at the executive level. Informix will survive as long as it provides a revenue stream: Nothing more. If you want a future in RDBMS you really have little choice but to expand your skill set to DB2, Oracle, or SQL Server. -- Daniel A.
