Chunks down

Hi, I have a dbspace named calms13_dbs and a number of chunks in that. SOme of which have become down with status PD. I have 3 databases in that dbspace .I have some questions here. 1. How can i know reason for the chunks going down? 2. When i drop the database in that dbspace, they cannot be droped becuase the chunks in that dbspaces are down. How to drop them? 2. when i try to drop the chunks, its not allowing to drop since data exists. 3. same case as above, when i try to drop the dbspace. So how can i get rid of this dbspaces. Is initialization only the solution or is there any way to bring the chunks online(other than restoring from backup). 4. is there any utility to check the down chunks(PD) conform to informix chunk format. Bye.
Chunks are marked down if:
- there is an OS error encountered reading or writing the chunk
- you performed an archive restore and shutdown the engine without first
bringing the engine to full online mode so that fast recovery could complete
making the dbspaces consistent.
- The server detected reserved pages in the dbspace at startup that were
corrupted or otherwise damaged.
How did they get marked down? When? Look in the instance's message log there
will be a message from when the chunk status was changed or you will see a
restore followed by a shutdown with no intervening message indicating that the
instance was fully online.
How to 'fix': Make sure there are no physical problems. If there were IO
errors that caused the status change then check the system logs for disk or
controller failure messages. Make sure the chunk links/files still exist and
have the proper permissions (owner informix, group informix, perms 0660
(-rw-rw-r--) Try to read the chunks yourself using dd (UNIX) if you get no
errors that's a positive sign. If all is well, call tech support and ask them
to check things out and mark the chunks online for you (you can try to use
onspaces to mark them online yourself, but it rarely works if there was a
reason
for the status change). Once all of the chunks are online run a complete set
of onchecks to verify that the page formats and data are intact:
oncheck -cR, oncheck -ce, oncheck -cc <database>, oncheck -cDI <database>The <database> above would include any database with tables in the affected
dbspace(s).
